BATHED IN SOFT LIGHT
Like glowing mini UFOs, they flitter through summer nights and mesmerise us with their enigmatic light. We are all familiar with glow-worms and are thrilled to witness bioluminescence as a miracle of nature. And organisms are also exploiting this ability in the depths of our oceans in order to entice prey, hunt and deceive their enemies. To this end, almost 80 percent of all deep-sea organisms are able to generate light. An ability that represents environmentally-friendly light and could be a sustainable alternative in our light-polluted world. Because it is not just glow-worms that we so seldom get to see, the stars at night are barely identifiable in some places. Light pollution is making pitch-dark nights a rarity. Light smog disturbs darkness and entire eco systems – making us humans sick in the process.
THE PATH AS THE GOAL

She had never cycled much before – but nevertheless she decided to circumnavigate the globe, following just eight months of preparation and without any sponsors. That’s how true adventures start. It’s the story of a sporting battle with many highs and lows. And a journey to the inner self.

NOBLE CRAFT
Meissen porcelain – the name stands for quality and first-class craftsmanship, for luxury and opulence, for tradition and, last but not least, for passion. Based in the Saxon city of Meissen, the company enjoys worldwide fame and is well known far beyond German borders. A successful craft business that is loved for doing what it has been doing for centuries – timelessly elegant, mostly hand-painted porcelain. But to inspire with its porcelain art even in the 21st century, the traditional house has had the help of the renowned designer team Otto Drögsler and Jörg Ehrlich since 2017 to restore its splendour.
VIRTUAL MOBILITY
The German automotive industry is currently under tremendous pressure. While manufacturers are still occupied with eradicating the damage to their reputations resulting from the emissions scandal, there are growing expectations in terms of the development of electromobility. Furthermore, there is a whole series of additional innovations and technologies that are revolutionising the driving experience on the one hand and the manufacturing process on the other. Those who don’t keep pace will soon suffer as a result, as these developments are already taking place. There is no time to stop and think.
DESIGNED BY INNOVATION
The dream of the perfect sports car has been motivating Porsche for over seventy years, and it is not least thanks to this vision that the brand has stood for performance and speed like no other ever since. The company’s innovative spirit and passion for technology and intelligent performance has made it easy for the vehicle manufacturer to leap into the digital age with all its promises and challenges. Together with Meyle+Müller and medialesson, Porsche has now launched a new innovative project that is revolutionising the design process of their sports cars. The use of mixed reality technology has allowed them to create exciting use cases in unison that pledge a tremendous increase in efficiency. We spoke to Pablo Kern at Meyle+Müller, Philipp Bauknecht at medialesson and Sebastian Reher at Porsche about this unique collaboration, its background and, of course, its results.
SUSSED OUT
Those wishing to purchase a new car can either go to a car dealer or browse online platforms and websites. Maintaining an overview here is difficult, and how do you know whether the information you are being given is actually accurate? Ultimately, a new car also represents a financial risk, particularly in the case of used vehicles. To create greater transparency for all parties in these situations, Twinner has developed a solution with which a full ‘Digital Twinn’ of vehicles can be generated, hence minimising the risk for buyers and helping create a more stable sale for the vendor.
IF YOU REST YOU RUST
Life is all about movement – and we live in a rapidly-changing world. And this also, or particularly, applies to the world of business. Here, ideas for new ways of working, software architectures and qualifying staff are required. Today, businesses must face the challenges associated with future developments and rethink in many areas in order to survive within the market and to remain competitive.
IN HARMONY
Faster, higher, stronger – we live in an age in which we struggle to find rest. Stress is our constant companion, especially in the professional environment. The first psychological signs of being overworked – such as sleep problems, illness, difficulties concentrating, irritability and lack of motivation – are readily pushed aside. We only start paying attention when physical ailments such as back pain, headache, fatigue and increased blood pressure can no longer be ignored.
FASHION MEETS MUSIC
Eric Kent’s sense of individuality was legendary. His fashion style still inspires – and so do the many stories told about the founder of the long-established British fashion brand “Kent & Curwen”. Kent is said to have thrown flowers across his studio floor in order to find unexpected colour combinations. He liked to make fun of the conventional dress code of the ‘30s and to combine sports fashion with formal suits. Today it is David Beckham who portrays the archetypal Kent & Curwen man and is world-renowned for his style as well as his achievements.
TIME TRAVEL
The ancient, angular stones feel warm and rough. They belong to the wall of a 13th-century Crusader’s stronghold. I wonder about all the things these stones have witnessed throughout the centuries – and what they think of the unusual mid-century design classics of Shiro Kuramata and Pierre Paulin located right next door. An exciting contrast indeed, in the lobby of what may be the most spectacular new hotel in Tel Aviv’s historic Jaffa District in Israel. The hotel is located above the harbour of the Old Town with a dream view of the Mediterranean Sea.
MAGIC POTION
Ginger-orange, elderberry, lychee and herbs – most people are familiar with Bionade’s various flavours. The mid-2000s saw the healthy soft drink skyrocket to become the zeitgeist drink par excellence. The bottle with the prominent red dot as its logo could be found in every aisle, and anyone who wanted to live the chic “LOHAS” lifestyle drank Bionade. It was synonymous for the up-and-coming eco awareness and was officially the “beverage for a better world”. For the founder Peter Kowalsky it would turn out to be an unforeseeable success story that was well-deserved following many difficult years of tinkering and fine-tuning together with his stepfather, mother and brother.  The founding family surrounding Peter Kowalsky sold all shares at the height of Bionade, once it had entered the mainstream. These days, the master brewer and food engineer is brewing up a new drink in his Berlin production laboratory. “Inju”, a “natural cell tonic”, is a recipe for realising one’s own potential. It’s about a personal energy boost in a bottle that helps develop the special and unique things at a cellular level that lie dormant in every person.
WIN WIN WITH DIGITAL TWIN

Digital twins are widely talked about. With plenty of application scenarios, they have become crucial elements in the current phase of the digital revolution as well as in the upselling of after-sales products and solutions and in customer management. We conducted an interview on the topic with Alexander Pircher, Managing Director of infolox GmbH.

PARADISE TIMES
With its comprehensive assortment of spraying and gardening tools, Gloria Haus und Gartengeräte GmbH – founded in 1947 and offering innovative solutions for plant care, weed removal and the treatment of the most diverse surfaces – helps turn gardens into soothing recreational oases. The constant further development of the product range and the expansion of company communication ultimately resulted in an urgent demand for a flexible solution for the management of its product data. We spoke to Alexander Kienborn, Head of Marketing at Gloria, about the implementation project and its challenges.
THE DINOSAURS ARE STILL AMONG US
The death of print was predicted almost 15 years ago. The existential crisis of publishing houses and business models based on the production of major catalogues has confirmed this prophecy. But has it really? Few companies still refrain from printing altogether. In fact, the opposite is true: more printing is done today than ever before, but the focus has changed. Nowadays, print products are more individual, targeted and demand-based. Our series of articles in the Produktkulturmagazin therefore takes a closer look at the future of print and publishing in product communication.
SEBASTIAN ROHR ON THE RELEVANCE OF APIS
In our increasingly digital and networked world, application programming interfaces (APIs) are the building blocks from which innovative new business models can be built. We spoke with Sebastian Rohr, CTO at Apiida AG, about the importance of APIs and the pivotal aspect of security.
TURBULENT TIMES
Maintaining and managing company data in the long term is a challenging task for many companies. The IT infrastructure must be subjected to regular tests and reports must be evaluated while systems are tested for their efficiency and suitability. This alone is often enough to bring those responsible to the limits of their capacity. Yet fundamental challenges in data storage are the least of the problems when it comes to heavily-regulated industries such as the financial services sector or medical technology.
PORTRAIT FORMAT
Ever more users are viewing video contents on their smartphones – and in portrait format. This development is slowly but surely heralding in a trend reversal for the moving picture industry. Meanwhile, even major platforms such as YouTube are responding.
RESPONSIVE ISCM
What are the greatest obstacles businesses face on their digital transformation journeys? The answers to this question are as numerous as they are diverse. Insufficient financial resources, the wrong staff, lack of a consistent digital strategy, no time. This list continues ad infinitum. Ultimately, it depends on one thing above all – namely the ability to adapt to changing circumstances and this in an as resource-friendly a manner as possible.
INTELLIGENT WORKSPACE
The way we work has changed dramatically over the past few years. Mobile terminal devices are allowing work to be carried out anywhere and are highly attractive to many employees. However, despite all the flexibility, collaboration remains a fundamental factor – not only for the creative process. But technology is even entering this sphere: we spoke to Birgit Jackson, Commercial Director Europe at Sharp Visual Solutions, about the new Windows Collaboration Display and the role of technology in collaboration.
HOLY HALLS
Sunlight falls obliquely through the high, pointed Gothic windows of the old church, making the geometric patterns on the walls shine like a rainbow. The bright color spectrum conjures a kaleidoscope of patterns and shapes into the room. It is broken only by the jumps of the skaters practising their moves on a half-pipe running across the nave. This unique place in the small town of Llanera, in the Spanish Asturias, is called “Kaos Temple”. The temple has been a pilgrimage destination for skate culture lovers since the church was transformed into a kind of skatepark.
